ESTES PARK
This public square in the center of town was given to the City of Iowa Falls
by its founders. It was originally named Central Park and later renamed Estes
in honor of pioneer surveyor, engineer and teacher Jason Estes. A band pagoda
was built in the center of the park in 1898, near the site of the present day
fountain. Note the limestone bench and pedestals. The influence of West Coast
architecture is seen on the Spanish Revival style of the bandshell built to
replace the pagoda in 1931. The popcorn stand on the southeast corner was
manufactured in Kansas City in the early 1900s. John Ellefson has been
selling "the best popcorn in the world" from his corner stand for nearly 30 years.
